Framed image

I haven't been so active in writing over last week. This is because Halo 3: ODST came out on Tuesday. I have since been playing it at every opportunity. For the information of people who don't know, Halo 3 is the best selling game on the Xbox 360 with 10.17 million copies sold to date. ODST is an expansion of sorts which follows the same story as Halo 3 except from a different perspective. A bit like the expansions for Half-Life.

Anyway, enough of that, my homework task was to create an image which I crop to widen the amount of possible interpretations. All models in the images were posed by myself in Gmod.

The first view:

This shows only an old sad/worried man. He's dressed in a turtle-neck jumper and jacket. There are many possible interpretations:

  • He looks sophisticated, he could be a salesman who's down on his luck.
  • The lines on his brow show the long hours he might have worked at the office. Perhaps he's at a bar and just needs a little cheering up with a drink or two.
  • Maybe he's just cheated on his wife and is experiencing a moral dilemma.
  • Is he looking at something, or is he just lost in thought. What could he be looking at?

The second view:

Now our man has his arm around another man, this second person seems to be on the verge of sobbing. Their stance is friendly and supportive. This seems to confirm most of the interpretations I came up with for the first view. They're at a bar because something depressing has happened and they're going to drown their sorrows.
However looking more closely at the brick wall behind them makes me think that perhaps they're at home. When is this scene set? What is his relationship with this new person?

The third view:

Now we see that the thing the first man was staring at is in fact a coffin. My final interpretation is that these two men are at a funeral parlour. The man on the left is probably a friend who dressed up for the occasion. What is not explained is who is in the coffin or when the scene is set.

PS. Clicking on the images should bring them up to full size. (I actually rendered them at 1920x1080 resolution but I think blogger reduces them to 1600x900 resolution).
