Essay plan.

How are institutions and ideologies represented in the film "The Pursuit of Happyness?"
(each bullet point is one paragraph/a couple of sentences)

Institutions:
  • The Chinese nursery is badly represented but it shows the film's multicultural aspect.
  • Traditional view of hospitals as caring places is reversed as Chris is continually rejected.
  • Stockbrokers presented as elitist to begin with but as they accept Chris for an interview and onto the internship programme their image changes as the Chris's saviours.

Ideologies:
  • Regan's ideology referenced in his speech. Added sense of background to the film.
  • The Pursuit of Happiness as defined by the American Constitution, the meaning of the title.
  • Unequal American Society in general.
I could also write about some of the values which are quite similar to ideologies. For example Chris's insistence on giving his son a good education and how Linda's role as a working mum is represented.
